PORT KLANG Feb 3 --The remains of veteran comedian Datuk Jamali Shadat were laid to rest at the Kampung Sungai Pinang Muslim Cemetery, here at about 4.15 pm today.
Earlier, his remains were brought to the Ar-Rahman Mosque in Kampung Sungai Pinang at about 12.00 noon to be bathed before funeral prayer was conducted by about 10 family members at his residence.
A sad sombre atmosphere enveloped the house as family members and friends came to pay their last respects to the deceased who was later buried near his late wife, Lela Yacob.
Jamali’s sixth child, Fauzi, 49, said his father had not been happy for a long time since his mother died in June 2018 due to a stroke.
"He also did not talk much, only a few words. When people came to visit and speak with my father, his voice was inaudible.
"My father had been ill since the spread of fake news about his death in early January. In the last three weeks, he had been bed-ridden and his health began to deteriorate three days ago," he told reporters when met at his father’s house today.
Jamali who was the voice behind the character ‘Atan’ the boy who often playfully bullied his ‘Atuk’ (grandfather) died at his home at 9 am today. He was 78.
Selangor Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Amirudin Shaari in expressing his condolences to Jamali’s family members through his official Facebook post said, the country has lost a truly talented comedian.
