KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 25 -- The Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) chased away 25 Indonesian fishing boats encroaching into Malaysian territorial waters 52 nautical miles south east of Pulau Perak, Kedah this evening.
RMN in a statement today, said KD Mahawangsa through Op Benteng Laut was mobilised to intercept the boats after it received information from the Royal Malaysian Air Force’s (RMAF) Air Component Commander on the encroachment.
The vessel which was on patrol in the Northern Melaka Straits, immediately moved to the location and found 25 fishing boats flying the Indonesian flag and without registration numbers.
‘’"The presence of RMN vessels 24 hours a day is to curb the entry of illegal immigrants and prevent the spread of COVID-19," said the statement.
