BAU, Jan 17 -- The floods which occurred following heavy rains over the past few days in Sarawak also triggered mudslides along Kampung Opar main road, here, some 40km from the city centre.
Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department director Khirudin Drahman said the mudslides found along the road had been cleared by the Works Department on Jan 14.
"The mudslide incidents occurred as the strong river flow had carried along the mud from the river banks," he said when contacted by Bernama today.
Bau district is one of the areas severely affected by the floods this time around, which saw several main roads leading to this district being cut off.
Electricity supply to the border areas in Lundu and Sematan districts was also cut off when the electricity poles fell during a landslide last Friday, but this was restored yesterday.
In addition, several areas in Bau district were also hit by landslides.
