CYBERJAYA, Dec 10 -- Work to upgrade broadband services in Kampung Watt Paya Mat Inson, Pendang, Kedah from 3G to 4G coverage is expected to be completed by Feb 2021.
The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), in a statement today said, that it would also endeavour to speed up the implementation of upgrading the coverage in the surrounding villages such as Kampung Baloh and Kampung Huma.
"Further evaluation will also be made to ensure that the coverage gaps in the areas around the villages can be improved.
"With the implementation of this upgrade in the future, residents will be able to enjoy 4G service coverage that can provide a better broadband experience, especially when their children are following online learning," he said.
According to MCMC, Kedah Executive Councillor Wan Romani Wan Salim and MCMC chairman Dr Fadhlullah Suhaimi Abdul Malek held a dialogue session with the villagers comprising Siamese residents on Dec 9.
This was following complaints about their children's online learning sessions being disrupted due to the broad bands’ unsatisfactory speed.
MCMC said the National Digital Network (JENDELA) initiative being implemented by MCMC together with telecommunications companies was targeting the expansion of 4G coverage to 96.9 per cent of the populated area by the end of 2022 with an average internet speed boosted to 35Mbps.
