KOTA SAMARAHAN, Oct 24 -- Traffic congestion along the Kuching-Samarahan Expressway is expected to be reduced significantly once the upgrading project of five roundabouts that formed part of the highway is completed in two years’ time.
Sarawak Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg today said the completion of the upgrading works would also provide a safe and alternative route for the current and future needs of road users.
“There is a need for these upgrading works particularly with the completion of the Batang Samarahan Bridge and the coastal road (the second trunk road passing Sarawak coastal area up to the north of the State),” he told reporters after officiating the ground breaking ceremony for the upgrading works here.
He said the RM47,355,800.20 worth project which had commenced on Oct 15 this year was scheduled for completion by Jan 14, 2022.
“There is also a plan to build another Samarahan-Kuching Expressway to connect Sejingkat and Santubong with dual carriageway leading to tourism areas, besides another road to connect the federal road to Lundu and Samarahan,” he added.
