Felda coach to honour contract until season ends before speaking to suitors

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 14  -- Felda United FC (FUFC) head coach Mohd Nidzam Jamil insists he will fulfil his duties as usual until the end of the season, although the ‘The Fighters’ will not feature in the Malaysia League (M-League) next season.

The former national player said he would honour his contract with Felda, which expires next year, before holding discussions with other teams interested in securing his services.

"I still have another year of contract with Felda United and I understand that the Felda management will hold a meeting soon with the players and coaches regarding the compensation payment for the remainder of our contracts since Felda United will not be playing in the M-League next season," he told Bernama today.

Mohd Nidzam admitted that the players’ morale was very low after the Felda management confirmed that the team would not compete in the M-League next season.

The former head coach of SPA Putrajaya FC and AirAsia FC, however, believes that his men will still give their best when the Malaysia Cup campaign kicks off on Nov 6.

"The decision of the management to withdraw (from the M-League) has affected team morale but I believe it can be a blessing in disguise,” he said, adding that it might spur his men to give their best and go down fighting.

He was appointed Felda United head coach in 2018 following the resignation of B. Sathianathan, who decided to leave the team because of unhappiness over the salary cut.

Felda United have been relegated to the Premier League next season after finishing 11th in the 12-team Super League standings this season with collecting seven points from 11 matches (one win, four draws and six defeats).

The Felda Corporate Communications Unit recently released a statement announcing that FUFC would not be competing in the 2021 M-League competition, and that the 16 staff involved would be compensated according to conditions of their appointment.
