Rompin State Park to reopen in October

ROMPIN, Sept 15  -- The Rompin State Park here which is among the oldest tropical rainforest in the world will start receiving tourists from October 1 after it was closed for upgrading four years ago, said Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail. 

He said the state park which was formerly known as Endau Rompin State Park was established on Dec 7 2000 and it is estimated to be more than 130 million years old and the forest is classed as tropical lowland evergreen rainforest. 

"The state park is not only renown as an ecotourism destination among locals but it was also popular with foreign visitors for its flora and fauna, geology and history.

"It is has natural beauty with pristine forest difficult to be found in other places while the Seri Mahkota Waterfall is also a major attraction," he said when speaking at the Reopening of the Rompin State Park here today.

Wan Rosdy said to protect the sustainability of the state park, the Pahang Forestry Department and the appointed park operator, Endau Rompin Park Resort Sdn Bhd agreed to implement a ‘No Plastic Bag” policy at the park.

Apart from that the state government has set the entrance fee at between RM10 and RM30 for locals depending on the categories and from RM30 to RM50 for foreigners while persons with disabilities in both groups are allowed to enter for free.

He said the new name Rompin State Park (Taman Negeri Rompin) was approved after getting the consent of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah who is also the Sultan of Pahang to avoid confusion with the Endau-Rompin National Park in Johor.
