KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 11 -- The Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) won first place in the Excellent Feature Reporting category of the Malaysian Press Institute (MPI)-Petronas Malaysian Journalism Awards (MWM2020) tonight.
Bernama journalist Rohana Nasrah was co-winner of the category and took home RM5,000 along with a trophy and certificate.
Her winning pieces: 'Borneo Elephants: Sabah's precious treasures are increasingly threatened', 'Jibius Dausip, the Unsung Elephant Hero', 'Borneo Elephants: Need a win-win situation', 'Integrated efforts to save Pygmy Borneo Elephants' and 'Kinabatangan’s Potential To Enhance Sabah Tourism '.
The award was presented by Petronas Group president and chief executive officer (CEO) Tengku Muhammad Taufik Tengku Aziz to Bernama acting CEO and Editor-in-Chief Datuk Mokhtar Hussain.
Another winner in the category was Fauzrina Bulka representing the Information Department through her three articles related to schools.
Apart from that, Bernama journalists Nurul Nadia Mohd Kamaruzaman and Ahmad Shahuri Mat Jaan brought home a consolation prize of RM1,000, along with a certificate, for the Best Video Documentary category titled '‘Raja Berdaulat Payung Negara’.'
At the same time, Muhammad Azim Zaid from Bernama Radio also won a consolation prize of RM1,000 with a certificate through the Best Radio Report category under the title ‘Pakar Jadian Jendela Estetik’.
The late veteran journalist Datuk Ahmad A. Talib was the recipient of the Special Jury Award category. His daughter Sophia received the award on his behalf. The award carried RM10,000 along with a trophy and certificate.
Earlier, MWM2020 chairman and CEO of the MPI, Datuk Dr Chamil Wariya in his speech thanked the sponsors and said it was a challenge making tonight's event a success due to the COVID-19 situation in the country.
Today's event was conducted following the standard operating procedures.
Chamil said the event made history as this was the first time that the MWM was carried live on Bernama TV and Bernama FB Live.
At the event, Senior Minister (Education) Dr Radzi Jidin was present on behalf of Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
Meanwhile, it was announced during the dinner that there was no winner for the Kajai award this year because the jury found no eligible entries.
