Jalan Tawau-Sandakan slope repair completed on Aug 30

TAWAU, Sept 1 --  The slope repairing work at Federal Route 13  at the 251.6th kilometre, Jalan Tawau - Sandakan, which is one of the priority projects under the Ministry of Works (MOW), was completed on Aug 30.

MOW Development and Privatisation Division secretary Datuk Zahrul Hakim Abdullah said the RM9.349 million project was completed via the concession company, Lintasan Resources Sdn Bhd under the supervision of the Sabah Public Works Department (PWD).

"The slope collapsed on Dec 22, 2017, and, as such, the main route was cut off and immediate action was taken to build a diversion route on the left side of the road by the Sabah PWD.

‘’And, today, after almost 30 months from the date, work was implemented, I am personally present to receive the completed project. The project was completed earlier (Aug 30) than the given date on Nov 30.

‘’Upon completion, the traffic flow was reported smooth at the two-way road with four lanes which is the main route to the Tawau Airport and city centre,’’ he told reporters after the project handover ceremony here today.

Zahrul said there were several other projects in the district which were also in MOW’s priority list including the slope repair works on the Merotai - Kalabakan route.

Meanwhile, he said MOW took note of unsuitable diversions or U-turns on roads and the technical matter would be looked into by the Engineering Division and the PWD headquarters.

"Whether a road stretch is suitable or not for a diversion or U-turn, I will discuss with the district PWD and the headquarters to ensure that the safety of road users is not compromised,” he added.

Zahrul was commenting on the matter in the light of inappropriately located diversions and U-turns on several roads in Tawau such as Jalan Ranggu, Batu 8.
