Chronology of Kevin Morais' murder case

KUALA LUMPUR, July 10 -- Following is the chronology of Deputy Public Prosecutor Datuk Anthony Kevin Morais’ murder case: 

 

2015

 

Sept 4: Morais was reported to have left his house at Kondominium Menara Duta (1), Jalan Dutamas, at about 9 am to go to his office at the Attorney-General’s Chamber in Putrajaya.

 

Sept 5 : A Proton Perdana (Honda Accord rebadge) was found burnt at an oil palm plantation in Kampung Sungai Samak, Hutan Melintang Perak, the same car that was driven by Morais which was reported missing.

 

Sept 6:  Police classified Morais as a missing person.

 

Sept 14: Then Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar , based on a footage of a CCTV obtained by the police, confirmed Morais was abducted by five men at Jalan Telawi, Bangsar.

 

Sept 16: Police confirmed Morais’ body was was found in a barrel filled with concrete at Taman Subang Mewah, USJ1, Subang Jaya 

 

Sept 28: Seven men were charged with Morais’ murder at the Kuala Lumpur Magistrate’s Court.

 

2016 

 

Jan 7: The case of seven men, including an army doctor, charged with Morais’ murder was transferred from the Magistrate’s Court to the Kuala Lumpur High Court.

 

April 6: The first day trial of the seven men charged with Morais’ murder at the Kuala Lumpur High Court.

 

Dec 20: The Kuala Lumpur High Court acquitted and discharged second accused G.Gunasekaran on a charge of murdering Morais after he pleaded guilty and was sentenced to jail by the Magistrate’s Court for concealing Morais' body and disposing of the deceased's car.

 

 

2017     

 

Nov 20:  The six accused  in the Morais’ murder ordered by the Kuala Lumpur High Court to enter their defence.

 

2018

 

Jan 25: First day of the defence trial on Morais’ murder case.

 

2020

 

June 11: Submission by prosecution and defence on Morais’ murder case at the Kuala Lumpur High Court.

 

July 10: The Kuala Lumpur High Court ordered the six accused in Morais’ murder sent to the gallows to be hanged after finding them, guilty of the charge.

They are pathologist Colonel Dr R. Kunaseegaran, 57; money lender S. Ravi Chandaran, 49; and four unemployed men -- R. Dinishwaran, 28; A.K. Thinesh Kumar, 27; M. Vishwanath, 30 and S. Nimalan, 27.
