KUALA LUMPUR, June 26 -- Selangor chief coach B. Sathianathan has suggested that teams in the Malaysian League (M-League) be allowed to conduct training involving body contact in a few weeks’ time.
The former national coach this would be possible if all M-League teams continued to abide by the standard operating procedure (SOP) set for them to conduct the first phase of training, which does not involve body contact.
“In the past few days, we have successfully followed the SOP and proved that training without involving body contact can be done.
“I hope in two or three weeks’ time we can start training with body contact as so far we have been doing only endurance training,” he said in a statement issued by the Malaysia Football League (MFL) today.
Sathianathan also hoped that fans would be allowed to watch M-League matches in stadiums should the authorities decide to resume the league competition in September.
He said Stadium Shah Alam, the main venue for Selangor, is big enough for the implementation of the SOP if fans are allowed at the venue.
“So, I am confident that the government will relax the rules to allow supporters inside the stadium when the league resumes. In football, the presence of fans is important to lift up the spirits of players," he added.
Yesterday, Kuala Lumpur head coach Mohd Nidzam Adzha Yusoff made a similar call for a limited number of fans to watch matches live when the league competition resumes.
