IPOH, May 20 -- About 1,977 educators and caregivers of early childhood education  institutions in Perak registered with the Social Welfare Department (JKM) will get a one-off RM500 financial assistance each, involving an allocation of RM1 million.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu said the state government would also provide rental aid at a flat rate of RM500 per month for three months to 567 early education institutions registered with the department to ease the burden following the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The overall allocation to operators of early education institutions and teaching staff is RM1.84 million,” he said when announcing the Perak State Economic Stimulus Package (Phase Two) at the Perak Darul Ridzuan Building here, today.

The RM71.17 million package includes an allocation of RM18.36 million to the business sector, agriculture sector (RM15.59 million), tourism (RM10.84 million), education and human capital ((RM9.56 million), welfare and social ( RM1.4 million) and land tax (RM15.42 million).

Following the announcement, the overall Perak State Economic Stimulus Packaged following the COVID-19 outbreak was RM101.61 million with the first package amounting to RM30.44 million.

In addition, Ahmad Faizal said under the second phase of the package, 2,830 teachers of ‘mahaad tahfiz’ received RM800 each, involving a total allocation of RM2.26 million.

The state government also gave RM10,000 to 116 private ‘maahad tahfiz’ with a total allocation of RM1.16 million to ease the financial burden.

“I call on those tahfiz centres not registered with the Perak Islamic Religious Department to do so immediately. The state government is committed to assist and facilitate the registration so that parents are confident of their children's safety and quality of education,” he said.

To support the role of the welfare institutions, Ahmad Faizal said the state government provided RM150 per capita contribution to care centres and shelters totalling nearly RM1 million.

“This assistance will benefit almost 6,000 orphans, the elderly and the disabled in welfare homes,” he said.
