KUALA LUMPUR, May 12 -- National futsal striker Saiful Nizam Mohd Ali has set himself two targets for the new season of the Malaysia Premier Futsal League (MPFL), which is expected to kick off in September.
“I hope to be the top scorer again and help my team, Pahang Rangers, clinch its first league title by wresting it from Selangor,” he said in a statement issued by his team today.
“However, it will be difficult to be the top scorer again as my performance has been hampered by the long layoff due to the Movement Control Order (MCO) enforced to curb the spread of COVID-19.”
The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) has yet to make an official announcement on the status of the MPFL, but its secretary-general Stuart Ramalingam had hinted that the league was likely to resume in September together with the Malaysia League (M-League) competition.
In last season’s MPFL, Saiful Nizam scored 18 goals to be joint top scorer with two other national players -- Fariq Ahmad (Selangor) and Ridzwan Bakri (Perak).
