KUALA LUMPUR, April 20 -- All State Islamic Religious Councils (MAIN) and Tithe Management Agencies (AMZ) are optimising their online zakat payment methods to enable payers to perform their duties faster and safer.

According to a statement by the Endowment, Tithe and Haj Department (JAWHAR), in the Prime Minister’s Department, the public could refer to their respective MAIN's website to learn more about the mechanism for online tithe payment.

At the same time, the tithe payment services through tithe collectors (amil) were still available at all MAIN and AMZ to help those who are not technologically proficient or did not have internet access.

“For individuals who have been positively diagnosed with COVID-19 or recovering from the illness, including those categorised as Patient Under Inquiry (PUI) and Person Under Surveillance (PUS) who wish to fulfill their obligations must appoint representatives from among healthy family members or beneficiaries to make the payments.

“The mechanism of implementation will be coordinated in accordance with the MCO in force. However, for states that do not provide tax payment services through amil, the payers should refer to MAIN and AMZ as the state religious authorities, "according to the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) regarding the payment of tithes under the Movement Control Order (MCO).

All the directives and procedures of the National Security Council (MKN) and the Ministry of Health (MOH) must be implemented. The tithe payment locations identified by MAIN and AMZ were suitable and took into account the safe social distancing element.

The payment process must also be completed within a short period of time. Payers and amil were advised to maintain hygiene, wear nose and mouth coverings and use hand sanitisers.
