KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 19 -- The World Halal Conference (WHC) 2020, scheduled to be held here on April 1 and 2, is postponed to Sept 1 and 2 following cases of COVID-19 infection in the country.

Halal Development Corporation (HDC) chief executive officer, Hairol Ariffein Sahari said the decision was made following discussions with the stakeholders including several ministries and government agencies.

“Although the COVID-19 virus situation in Malaysia is still under control, travel restrictions imposed by some countries have caused a lot of travel disruptions and uncertainties.

"The health and safety of WHC participants is our priority, and in line with the recommended safety measures, we have decided to take additional precautions and will hold the WHC 2020 in September," he said in a statement, here, today.

The WHC is an international thought leadership conference held annually, bringing together government representatives, halal industry players, entrepreneurs, and scholars from all over the world to Kuala Lumpur.

It is an ideal platform for intellectual discourse on the development of the halal industry and wealth  creation through technology and innovation.
