Sarawak to host first TAFISA Asian Games in 2022 

KUCHING, Feb 10 -- Sarawak, for the first time, will be hosting the Asian Sport For All Games 2022 after successfully bidding for it in Tokyo, Japan, in 2019.

State Youth and Sports Minister, Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said today that Sarawak's capital city would be the venue of the one-week event slated for August 2022, and preparations would start immediately to ensure a smooth and successful organisation.

The meet will be jointly organised by The Association for International Sport for All (TAFISA), Malaysian Sports for All Council (Masfa) and Sarawak Sports Corporation.

“The preparations have to be made early because many countries will be joining in and I’ve been made to understand that it (the number) can reach as many as 80 countries,” he told a press conference after witnessing the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) by the three parties to organise the games.

While unable to specify at this stage on the exact disciplines to be featured at the upcoming games, Abdul Karim said Sarawak being the host, would try to include blow-pipe and kite-flying as among the competitive sports.

“As far as I know, it will not be showcasing ordinary competitive events but sporting events that blend culture and traditions. It can be traditional archery, blowpipe or kite flying competition, and regatta boat race but it (the final list) will be determined by the organising committee,” he added.

With more than 270 members from over 150 countries on all continents, TAFISA is the leading international Sport for All organisation that  aims to create an active world by globally promoting and facilitating access for every person to Sport for All and physical activities.
