KUCHING, Jan 31 -- Some 30,000 face masks will be distributed to all primary schools in the Stampin parliamentary constituency in the effort to curb the spread of the respiratory infection, 2019 novel onavirus (2019nCov).
Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs, Chong Chieng Jen, who is also the Stampin Member of Parliament, said the masks would be distributed in batches starting from today and more would be ordered should there be a need to do so.
“We hope that this move will boost the awareness of the public, particularly school children, on how to prevent the spread of the virus,” he told reporters after distributing the masks at SJKC Chung Hua Stapok here.
He said that the awareness programme would also include teaching the school pupils personal hygiene and hoped that this initiative would be emulated by other organisations.
“Apart from the school authorities, we also hope parents and the society at large will play their part to prevent the spread of the virus which is now becoming a global issue,” he added.
