TAIPING, Jan 31 -- Former Kampar District Council president Khairul Amir Mohamad Zubir was today sworn in as new Taiping Municipal Council (MPT) president.
The swearing-in ceremony was held before state Housing, Local Government, Public Transport, Non-Islamic Affairs and New Villages Committee chairman Paul Yong Choo Kiong and witnessed by the MPT members here.
The appointment, effective Jan 21 was to fill the vacant position following the retirement of Borhan Abdul Halim on Dec 31 last year.
Khairul Amir, 55, who hails from Parit and holds a bachelor's degree in social science from Universiti Sains Malaysia has 33 years of experience serving various local authorities including the Kerian District Council, Selama District Council and Tapah District Council.
