BACHOK, Jan 15 -- The Angkatan Koperasi Kebangsaan Malaysia (Angkasa) is now actively upgrading 3,000 micro-cooperatives to become medium-scale cooperatives, said its president Datuk Abdul Fattah Abdullah.
"Previously, micro-cooperative earned less than RM1 million, but when it is transformed into a medium-scale cooperative, annual turnover of RM2.4 million will be targeted.
"In the first phase, from January to May, 1,500 cooperative shops will be registered, while in the second phase from June to November another 1,500 cooperatives will be registered,” he told reporters after launching the institution of higher education-level BA100 at CoopMart Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK) here today.
He said the cooperatives would serve up to 1,000 customers per month and their target would be among the low-income groups (B40) in urban and rural areas.
Also present was UMK vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Noor Azizi Ismail.
