KUALA NERUS, Dec 15 -- The Gabungan Dewan Perniagaan Terengganu (GDPT) will develop a 23-hectare industrial area in Wakaf Tapai early next year, said Terengganu Malay Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DPMMT) president Ahmad Izani Ab Ghani.
He said the project, Wakaf Tapai Innovation Park (WTIP), would involve 10 local and foreign investors and total investment valued between RM300 million and RM400 million.
Among the industries that will be based at WTIP are waste management, green technology and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) using new technology.
“GDPT is a joint venture among DPMMT, Terengganu Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Terengganu Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
“For the WTIP pilot project, 10 plots have already been filled by investors from Terengganu, Kuala Lumpur, China and Thailand,” he told reporters at the Terengganu Entrepreneurs’ Appreciation night 2019, here, last night.
Also present was Deputy Minister of Housing and Local Government Datuk Raja Kamarul Bahrin Shah Raja Ahmad Baharuddin Shah.
Ahmad Izani added that WTIP development works expected to commence early next year once the site-related matters with the state government were resolved.
“This project does not involve any funding from the state government but it will benefit the local community with job opportunities and economic prosperity,” he said.
