KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 8 -- Malaysia and China today further strengthened their ties through the publication of two books to get to know the culture and history of China.
The collaboration is through Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) and China Radio International (CRI) to publish the book "Kenali Xi'an" and "Koleksi Cerita Klasik China" which are expected to provide more information about the republic.
The launch of the book and the ‘Kenali China’ exhibition was officiated by DBP director-general Datuk Abang Sallehuddin Abang Shokeran, who described the collaboration as another opportunity for locals to understand the art and culture of China and its people.
“Malaysia and China have had a long-standing cooperation, via CRI. DBP sends its officers to assist CRI staff in mastering Bahasa Malaysia and vice versa.
"We hope the people will get to know more about the arts and culture of the Chinese people because we have a very close relationship," he told Bernama after the launch.
Also present were Bernama Editor-in-Chief Datuk Mokhtar Hussain, Cultural Counsellor of the People's Republic of China in Malaysia Zhang Zhen, Bernama Radio chief operating officer Azlan Idris and CRI Publisher and Representative in Malaysia Selina Dong Xiaoping.
Meanwhile, Selina said the publication of the books was an excellent way for Malaysians to obtain accurate information about China.
“We want to find an approach that is accessible to the public through publishing books, magazines, and videos on tourism or culture especially for Malaysians.
“Nowadays many people use social media and a lot of information is available. So we want to play a role in fostering mutual understanding between China and Malaysia with books of our own work, ” she added.
