Confidence indicators among busineses down to -0.5 pct in Q4

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 28 -- Businesses are expecting slower performance with confidence indicators declining to -0.5 per cent for the fourth quarter this year compared with +3.1 per cent in the third quarter, according to the Statistics Department.

In a statement, Chief Statistician Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin said the Business Tendency Statistics For Fourth Quarter 2019 released today, presents expectations on business performance for the upcoming quarter and six months ahead.

“The services sector remains positive at a slower pace with a net balance of +5.9 per cent as compared with +11.5 per cent in the previous quarter,” he said.

Meanwhile, the industry, construction, as well as wholesale and retail trade sectors anticipate lower business prospects during the quarter at -2.2 per cent, -8.1 per cent and -4.9 per cent, respectively.

Within six months, business performance is expected to be positive for the period of October 2019 to March 2020 with a net balance of +6.4 per cent.

The department said establishments in industry and services sectors indicate their business outlook to be positive for the next six months ending March 2020 with a net balance of +6.1 per cent and +14.1 per cent respectively.
