KUANTAN, Nov 19 -- Bentong district has attracted the highest number of tourist arrivals in Pahang, the state legislative assembly was told today.

State Tourism, Environment and Plantation Committee chairman Datuk Seri Mohd Sharkar Shamsuddin said in 2018, Bentong recorded a total of 8,314,907 tourist arrivals, followed by Kuantan (2,419,048) and Cameron Highlands (1,496,372) with Maran at the last place with 8,304 people.

"Bentong has the highest number of tourists as it is the location of the country's most popular highland destinations, namely Genting Highlands and Bukit Tinggi besides Janda Baik which has many nature resorts.

"This data, however, only applies to tourists who spend the night either in hotels or homestays and we believe this number is even greater, considering those who were making a day-trip," he said when replying to a question from Lee Ah Wong (BN-Cheka).
