KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 8  -- The Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) has clarified that its reporter was not involved in the commotion that had led to the assault of ASLI CEO Melissa Ong at the ASLI-Russia Trade & Business Investment Forum held here today.

In a statement, the agency said the incident occurred when a man impersonating as a Bernama reporter tried to gain entry into the forum.

“Bernama has lodged a police report against this person for impersonating as a Bernama reporter. Bernama does not condone such unprofessional behaviour among its reporters, and would like to express our regret to the ASLI CEO for having had to endure such unacceptable and inexcusable conduct,” it said.

Bernama would like to emphasize that all its reporters are properly accredited in which organisers or hosts of events are welcome to ask for our reporters' accreditation during their press event or function, it added.
