KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 29 -- A total of 3,391 business entities have received the SSM BizTrust certification until Aug 31, 2019.
The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs said the seal of approval issued by the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM) indirectly created a safer online business community that adhered to established business ethics.
“It ensures that consumers will be more confident in conducting online transactions with the business entities.
“In addition, the SSM BizTrust certification attests that the online business entity has complied with the criteria of accountability such as business registration, online security and privacy protection," it said in a written reply posted on the Parliament website today.
The ministry was responding to a question from Datuk Shabudin Yahya (PH-Tasek Gelugor) who wanted to know whether the ministry had tightened the laws in dealing with online business fraud.
The initiative, introduced on July 21, 2017, aims to protect consumers and curb fraudulent activities by merchants offering products or services online.
In addition, an Electronic Transactions User Manual has also been published to help and educate consumers on the correct procedures before making online purchases.
"The ministry has also issued an E-Trade User Manual not only as a reference and guide for online traders but also as a reference for consumers who could use it as a checklist on online traders," he said.
