16/10/2019 10:15 PM

KOTA KINABALU, Oct 16  -- Datuk Peter Anthony won the FA of Sabah (SAFA) president's post uncontested for the  2019-2022 term at its annual congress here today.

Prior to this, Peter, who is also Sabah Infrastructure Development Minister, had been acting president following  Alijus Sipil stepping down as president, less than three months after taking up the post in November 2018.

Speaking to reporters after the congress, he said: "We will develop football in each district .. we want to find talent from age seven to 12  to be future champions."

He said SAFA would also be hiring a new coach for the state team as current coach Jelius Ating could no longer take charge next season because he does not have an AFC Pro Licence,  which is a requirement,

"Jelius will be made assistant coach and at the same time he will take up the course to get the  AFC Pro Licence,"  he added.

Peter also said SAFA will undertake a development programme to produce quality referees to meet the state's needs.
