PONTIAN, Oct 15 -- A new road linking Pekan Nanas and Tanjung Piai, due to be completed soon, will help to boost the growth of several villages in the area, generating long-term benefits for the local community.
Rural Development Minister Datuk Seri Rina Mohd Harun said the new RM65-million road was between 10 to 12 kilometres long and was now in its second phase of construction.
“The construction (of the road) is according to schedule and is 90 per cent completed. We expect it will be ready by the end of this year or early next year,” she told reporters at Kukup Golf Resort, here today.
Rina said the road would not only boost the economy of the local community but the government also hold to develop the human capital and physical infrastructure.
“If possible, by 2030, when we say rural, we no longer want to connect it with poverty,” she said.
Earlier, Rina presented 23 grants worth RM10,000 to 23 representatives of the Village Community Management Council in the parliamentary constituency to be used for community activities.
