LUMUT, Oct 1 -- The re-opening of Pangkor Airport, scheduled today, has to be postponed as the only aircraft to be using the short takeoff and landing (STOL) airport is still awaiting safety and technical inspection.
Perak Tourism, Arts and Culture Committee chairman Tan Kar Hing said all preparations had been made by the state government and Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) to facilitate re-opening of the airport.
SKS Airways Sdn Bhd, which will operate the flight at the airport, also has an office at the airport, only that its aircraft is still not ready as it is still waiting for safety and technical inspection, he said when contacted today.
The Pangkor Airport, which has a 732 metre airstrip, was opened for operations in 1993, but it ceased operations in February 2014.
Its reopening is aimed at boosting tourism and business on the resort island.
