KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 11 -- The Ministry of Education (MOE) will provide more English Language educators in schools by hiring retired English teachers for its Highly Immersive Programme (HIP),  Deputy Education Minister Teo Nie Ching said.

Teo said under the programme, the current group of English teachers will conduct lessons in the classroom as usual while the retired English teachers will help run the HIP programme.

“We have managed to get 30 retired English teachers to help out in five states including in Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Sarawak. We are getting all these retired English teachers to come back to school to help us in our HIP programme.

“This is to encourage students to use English more in their communications not only in the classroom but also outside the classroom,” she told reporters after officiating Direct English Symposium 2019 here today.

HIP is a programme introduced under the Education Ministry’s ‘Upholding Bahasa Malaysia and Strengthening the English Language (MBMMBI)’ policy to improve English proficiency in schools through wider exposure of the language.

Teo said HIP was an ongoing programme that ends this month, but the ministry will look at into its effectiveness and decide whether it deserves to be continued.

The Direct English Symposium 2019, organised by Direct English Malaysia/Melewar Learning Resources Sdn Bhd, is a platform for all English experts and practitioners, training providers and trainers to network and share ideas in bringing the best English language learning experience to all stakeholders.

Direct English Malaysia offers a perfect approach to English language learning with its unique cyclical syllabus, course material and face to face sessions, which are fully integrated to provide a complete, effective and highly flexible learning system.
