MELAKA, Aug 31 -- In a fitting tribute to Malay soldiers of the past, Melaka Chief Minister Adly Zahari and state executive councillors were dressed in khaki shirts at the 62nd National Day celebrations here today.
Adly said donning the long-sleeved light brown shirts was a way of showing their patriotism and remembering the nation’s freedom fighters who were attired in similar uniforms.
Earlier, the Chief Minister together with Melaka Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Dr Mohd Khalil Yaakob and the state executive councillors witnessed the state-level national day parade and procession at the Proclamation of Independence Memorial in Bandar Hilir here.
Adly added that while he and the executive councillors were dressed in khaki shirts, state assemblymen and those in the state agencies had also worn their respective patriotic outfits.
Over 9,000 participants took part in the event which was attended by over 30,000 visitors.
