GEORGE TOWN, Aug 25 -- Penang took to the field hopeful of victory but walked away satisfied with a draw in their Malaysia Cup match against Perak at City Stadium here last night.
Chief coach Manzoor Azwira Abdul Wahid said there was nothing much to complain as last year’s Malaysia Cup champions Perak are a strong and experienced team with many national players.
"I am thankful for the draw and credit should be given to the players for their hard work,” he told Bernama after the match, which ended 1-1.
Penang and Perak are tied on five points in Group C but the latter are one rung ahead on second spot on goal difference.
Manzoor said Penang sorely missed Argentinian import Sergio Aguero, who had to sit out the match after collecting three yellow cards in the Malaysia Cup competition.
"Aguero could have done something and made a difference to the score,” he said.
Perak coach Mehmed Durakovic said his team should have capitalised on the many goal-scoring chances they created.
"However, it was not easy playing against Penang who were backed by 6,000 fans, and I am satisfied with the result,” he said.
In another Group C match last night, Pahang beat Sabah 1-0 at Stadium Darul Makmur to book their quarter-final ticket.
