Zamarul bags Mr Malaysia 2019 title

KOTA KINABALU, Aug 17 (Bernama) -- Lance Corporal Zamarul Al Adam Pulutan Abdulah won the Mr Malaysia 2019 title at the 50th National Bodybuilding Championship held here today.

Zamarul, 28, was named as the overall champion among nine winners of their respective categories at the end of the tournament organised by the Malaysian Bodybuilding Association.

Native of Nabawan, Sabah, Zamrul, representing the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), won the Light Welterweight category which qualified him for the 'Champion of the Champions’ competition in the tournament.

Speaking to reporters after the tournament, Zamarul said it was the second time he had won the Mr Malaysia title after 2017, though he had won the Welterweight category for three consecutive years.

“I have been involved in this sport since 2013 and work really hard to qualify for the tournament and I am very happy to be named Mr Malaysia once again,” he said.

He said it was not an easy journey to reach his current level as he had to spend a lot to cover expenses especially on food and supplements.

“However, I am grateful for my friends and family’s support, especially my wife Zmazanriah Hanum Madin who has never given up in assisting me every step of the way.

“I also want to thank my coach Gazali Yunus who has never failed to remind and guide me in my daily training,” he said.

A total of 130 athletes representing 14 state contingents and two uniformed bodies, the PDRM and the Malaysian Armed Forces, were competing to win the title of Mr Malaysia 2019 at the 50th National Bodybuilding Championship, which began on Thursday.
