KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 14 (Bernama) -- National long jump para athlete Abdul Latif Romly has decided not to take part in the Paris Grand Prix Para Athletics Championship at the end of this month, and wants to focus on his preparation for the World Championship in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) this November.

At the same time, the Rio Paralympic 2016 gold medallist also wants to represent the country in the Sea Games for the second time, this time in the Phillipines, after doing it in Kuala Lumpur in the 2017 edition.

Abdul Latif said he had discussed the matter with his coach Syahrul Amri Suhaimi, including to participate in the Closed Athletics Championship, which is the last platform for athletes to qualify for the biennial games.

“I have discussed with my coach about not taking part in any more championships organised by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), but I will give my best in the World Championship this November,” he said when met at the NSC sacrificial programme in conjunction with the recent Hari Raya Aidiladha here today.

Abdul Latif said the Closed Athletics Championship, which will start this Friday, is the best platform for him to qualify for the Sea Games.

“I do not want to put my hopes too high. My target for this Sunday is to reach 7.60 m and above. I would be happy with that,” he said.
