JOHOR BAHRU, July 29 (Bernama) -- The Athletics Stadium @ Sportcity in Mount Austin, here, which is one of the venues of the 2020 Malaysian Games (Sukma) in July, can accommodate 5,000 spectators.
Kumpulan Prasarana Rakyat Johor (KPRJ) chief executive officer Datuk Norazam Osman said that the stadium, bordering the Eco Business Park, would be the main venue for athletics and rugby and was located 20 km from the city centre and 35 km from Iskandar Puteri.
‘’The stadium is designed under the modular system and can hold 5,000 spectators. It also has a full colour LED Video Mobile Scoreboard, athletic photo-finish timing system, field event equipment with wireless network and two rugby field following international specifications,” he said in a statement here today.
In addition, he said it was also equipped with athletics sports facilities which met the requirements of the Malaysian Athletics Federation and the National Sports Council such as for hurdles, putt shot, discus, javelin, long jump, pole vault, hop-step-and-jump and steeplechase.
A working visit by Youth And Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman was conducted today at the stadium and other venues, namely, Johor Velodrome in Iskandar Puteri and Arena Emas in Taman Impian Emas here, to view construction progress.
According to Noorazam, the Johor Velodrome involved the construction of a three-storey building and a 250 metre cycling track with a 700-seat capacity on a 2.5 ha site.
He said that Arena Emas was upgraded by a KPRJ subsidiary company KPRJ Builders Sdn Bhd to provide facilities for archery, petanque, lawn bowl and squash. Arena Emas is located on a 7.41 ha lot at the Taman Impian Emas camping and recreational site.
‘’The development, progress and upgrading of several venues for the 2020 Sukma by KPRJ is one more effort to achieve a planned sports development in the state,’’ he said.
KPRJ, through its subsidiary company, Sports Johor Sdn Bhd and the 2020 Sukma Secretariat would always help develop sports and athletes in the state to a higher level, he added.
