KUALA LUMPUR, July 26 (Bernama) -- Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Hajah Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah today received special commemorative coins from Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM).

The special coins, issued in conjunction with the installation ceremony of Sultan Abdullah as Malaysia’s 16th King scheduled for July 30, were presented by the BNM Governor Datuk Nor Shamsiah Mohd Yunus at Istana Negara here.

According to BNM Currency Management and Operations Department director Azman Mat Ali, the royal couple were presented with three special commemorative coins made of gold, sterling silver and nordic gold respectively.

“All the coins have the King’s portrait engraved on the obverse side and the Malaysian Coat of Arms on the reverse side.

“They were carefully engraved by a special and highly-skilled artist and were minted by Kilang Wang Bank Negara,” he told Bernama and RTM after the presentation of the coins to Their Majesties.

Azman said only 300 gold coins, 1,500 silver coins and 15,000 nordic gold coins would be minted for the purpose and made available for the public.

Orders can be placed through BNM website from mid-August, he added.
