Penampang needs additional state seat - Darell

20/07/2019 06:00 PM

KOTA KINABALU, July 20 (Bernama) -- Penampang MP Datuk Darell Leiking wants another state assembly seat to be added to the parliamentary constituency following the growing number of population, which is currently more than 100,000.

The International Trade and Industry Minister said Penampang currently had only two state seats, namely Moyog and Kepayan, and with the additional seat, it would allow the elected representatives to reach out to the people and give their full commitment and best service.

Darell said other parliamentary constituencies such as Papar, Putatan and Sepanggar would each have three state seats following the additional 13 new seats in Sabah.

"The next step is that we will discuss with other (Sabah) leaders including Chief Minister (Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal) and I want an additional seat in Penampang," he told reporters here today.

On Wednesday, the Dewan Rakyat passed the motion of the  proposed redelineation of electoral boundaries in Sabah

The motion, which involves adding 13 state seats, was passed with 158 of the 222 MPs supporting it in block voting.
