KUALA LUMPUR, July 11 (Bernama) -- The win over Kuala Lumpur in the Super League match at the Kuala Lumpur Football Stadium, Cheras, last night was very meaningful for Felda United as it enabled them to retain their place in Super League next season, its head coach Mohd Nidzam Jamil admits.
He noted that the 2-0 win was the result of intensive planning of the team’s coaching line-up during his absence as he had to attend the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Professional Training coaching course at Armada Hotel, Petaling Jaya.
“I would like to thank my assistants, Zahid, Khairul and Azlisham, who took care of the team for a few days, and they will continue to do the planning for the Felda United team, which includes conducting training sessions throughout my absence until July 17,” he told a press conference after the match.
Mohd Nidzam said The Fighters squad needed a positive result in the three remaining matches against PKNP FC, Pahang and Kedah to improve their position in the Super League chart.
Felda United is now at 11th place out of 12 teams with 15 points after 19 matches thus far.
Meanwhile, Kuala Lumpur’s acting coach, Roslee Md Derus admitted that individual errors were the cause of the team’s defeat to Felda United, but he praised some of the players who displayed outstanding performance during the match.
The former national player said the chance for the squad to stay in the Super League next season appeared slim, but he was still confident that the team could come out with positive results in the last two remaining matches against the 2019 Super League champions Johor Darul Ta'zim and Perak.
“On paper, the reality seems hard, but we have to keep going and we hope for a miracle in the two remaining matches. We'll see what happens,” said Roslee.
Kuala Lumpur is approaching the relegation zone to the Premier League next season after finishing at the last place of 12 teams with 14 points after 20 matches.
