JOHOR BAHRU, July 10 (Bernama) – Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) will propose to the Education Ministry to emulate Indonesia by organising an annual assembly of Malaysian students studying overseas.

Its vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Ir Dr Wahid Omar said the assembly would be an opportunity for the government to inform the students of the latest developments in the country.

“I will propose to the ministry to hold an annual assembly for our students overseas,” he told reporters at the launch of the Indonesian Graduates International Symposium 2019  organised by the Overseas Indonesian Students Association Alliance (OISAA) here today.

Earlier, Wahid said he was impressed by the enthusiasm shown by Indonesian students from 34 countries who gathered at the symposium to discuss the issue of the “Role of Youths in Innovations for National Independence”.

He said this showed they were willing to build positive strategic networks, not just among Indonesian students but also with Malaysia.

According to programme director Roy Suwanto, the topic for the five-day symposium was in line with current developments in Indonesia.
