1,401 foreigners arrested over prostitution activities in six months

KUALA LUMPUR, July 3 (Bernama) -- The police arrested 1,401 foreigners suspected to have been involved in prostitution activities in raids conducted around the city from January to June this year.

Kuala Lumpur Police chief Datuk Seri Mazlan Lazim said 1,167 of them were women.

“Vietnamese nationals topped the list with 309 women and eight men, followed by Thais (266 women and nine men); and Chinese (213 women and 14 men).

“The police also nabbed 242 Malaysian women for suspected prostitution and 327 Malaysian men who were the caretakers of the premises,” he said in a statement here today.

Mazlan also said that 136 summonses were issued to unlicensed entertainment outlets.

During the same period, the police busted online gambling activities and arrested 794 people for engaging in them.

They conducted 89 raids and seized RM98,357 in cash, 111 tablets, 1,100 telephones, two iPad, 333 laptops, 522 computers, 101 modems, 55 routers, and three simulators.

 Mazlan said 388 arrests were made relating to other types of gambling and RM97,393 worth of items were seized during the raids.
