PARIT BUNTAR, July 3 (Bernama) -- Two fishermen are feared drowned in the waters of Kuala Kurau, near here after failing to return home from fishing since yesterday.
The duo, Yap Bae Lun, 55, and his friend, Ong Cho Peen, 56, from here went out to sea on a blue fiberglass fishing boat at 4 pm.
Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) Kuala Kurau Base Acting Maritime director Lieutenant Safril Aza Mustapa said police were informed of the missing duo after receiving the report from their families at about 7.50 pm last night.
“Search and rescue (SAR) operation will be concentrated to the north along the waters of Kuala Kurau to Tanjung Piandang and may extend into Penang waters.
“Upon receiving the report, the Langkawi Maritime Rescue Sub-Centre activated the SAR operation,” he said in a press conference here today, adding the operation also involved the Fire and Rescue Department, police and Civil Defence Force.
