KUALA LUMPUR, July 2 (Bernama) -- Jelebu Undang Luak Datuk Mendika Menteri Akhirulzaman Datuk Maarof Mat Rashad has called for greater recognition of Negeri Sembilan’s chieftains, as enshrined in the state’s law and the Federal Constitution.
Among the legal responsibilities of the undang are as religious leaders in their respective districts which include matters relating to religious departments, religious offices, mosques and surau.
"The (position of the) undang luaks of Jelebu, Sungai Ujong, Johol, Rembau; and Tunku Besar Tampin cannot be treated arbitrarily. We have a lineage, and cannot be appointed anybody else. So, put us in our proper position. We are not looking for flattery, just to be recognised in our true position," he said.
He said this when appearing as a guest on Bernama News Channel’s (BNC) interview programme, ‘Ruang Bicara Khas’ at Wisma Bernama.
Maarof said the issue had been raised at the Negeri Sembilan Hall of Justice and Law which is the supreme council of customs in the state.
