MELAKA, June 24 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) assisted in the transportation of the MT Fortune Star crew member’s body who was reported to be unconscious on the boat since last night.
Melaka/ Negeri Sembilan Maritime director Maritime Captain Maritim Amran Daud said the agency received a distress call at 10.30pm from Kuala Linggi port officer about the crew member and immediately deployed a patrol boat to the location.
“The victim identified as Mohammad Musa was a 41-year-old Bangladeshi national, was brought to Kuala Linggi port jetty and was confirmed dead by the medical officer.
“The body was later handed over to the police and brought to Alor Gajah Hospital for further action,” he said in a statement today.
He said such an incident was the second case for this year involving an emergency case at the Melaka and Negeri Sembilan waters.
Amran also advised members of the public especially the maritime community to be cautious and emphasised safety when at sea, and if there was an emergency, they could contact the Maritime Operation Centre at 06-3876730 and 999 which runs 24-hour operations.
