MYA targeting four gold medals at 2019 SEA Games

LANGKAWI, June 21 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Yachting Association (MYA) is targeting four gold medals from the 12 events its athletes will be participating in during the SEA Games in the Philippines, this November.

Malaysia’s chef-de-mission (CDM) Datuk Megat Zulkarnain Omardin said the target was realistic and achievable.

"There are some of our favourite events that have been dropped, while some of the athletes in the events that contributed medals in the last tournament have gotten older and will compete in other age categories.

"However, from the briefing earlier (we found that) the national squad still has athletes that can potentially contribute the gold medal. MYA has not set any specific event for the gold medals, as all the events will be competitive,” he told reporters after attending the hour-long briefing squad manager Nik Ashraf Qaedi Nik Azizan at the National Sailing Centre here today.

Meanwhile, Megat Zulkarnain said 18 out of the 46 athletes currently undergoing training at the National Sailing Centre will be selected to represent the country at the biennial Games, with the final list from MYA expected by August.
