TANJUNG MALIM, June 18  (Bernama) -- Local authorities keen to take up the Malaysia Youth City concept are urged to get in touch with the Federal Territories Ministry.

Its Minister Khalid Abdul Samad said the development of the Malaysia Youth City (MYC) here would be a benchmark for other such cities in the future.

"So far, among the other pioneer projects that are being undertaken utilising the concept are in Sabah (Tuaran), Sarawak (Lundu) and Putrajaya," he said after making a visit to the site of the MYC here today.

Khalid, who is also the chairman of the National Youth Consultative Council, said the Simpang Renggam District Council in Johor had also stated that it wanted to develop Renggam town to be first MYC in the southern part of the peninsula.

He said with the proliferation of MYCs, youths would no longer need to migrate to the big towns and cities to seek “greener pastures”.

He later made a visit to  Taman Rimba Bandar (Ujana Muallim) in Proton City. The 15-hectare urban green lung, which came on stream in April,  was developed at a cost of RM9 million,
