ALOR SETAR, June 15 (Bernama) – An elderly man had an unpleasant surprise when he found two of his chickens missing and a python coiled up in his chicken coop at the backyard of his home at Lorong Haji Wahab, Padang Temusu near Sungai Petani this morning.
According to Aziz Ismail, 71, the snake which was over two meters long was found resting peacefully at about 7.15am.
"Every day I would feed the chickens and release them in the backyard … but when I entered the coop today everything was quiet and was shocked to see the coiled-up batik python looking pacified.
"I believe the snake which came from the bushes in the backyard, entered the chicken coop through the roof… I was about to get a chicken to be slaughtered for chicken rendang dish, but the python beat me to it," he said when contacted by Bernama today.
Aziz then sought the help of his daughter Nur Afishah, 31, to contact the Kuala Muda district Civil Defense Force (APM) to capture the reptile.
Meanwhile, Kuala Muda APM officer Capt. Azahar Ahmad said three personnel were rushed to the scene when the department received an emergency call at 7.19am.
"Our men had to use a special equipment to catch the 11 kg batik python which will be handed over to the Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) for further action," he said.
