KUALA LUMPUR, June 13 (Bernama) -- Veteran journalist and art activist Tan Sri Johan Jaaffar described the passing of 1960s singer-songwriter Datuk A. Rahman Hassan, 73, last night was a huge loss to the country’s music industry.
He said A. Rahman was a brilliant star in the country’s music industry and has done a lot in helping out many fellow artistes-friends.
“He was the voice for fellow artistes, especially those who were facing life challenges, his struggles will not be forgotten, as the loss is very much felt,” he said in a statement today.
A. Rahman died at the Ampang Hospital here, due to lung complications.
Johan said A. Rahman, a 'Pop Yeh Yeh' icon of the 1960s, and famous for the song ‘Tak Mengapa’ with his band Orkes Nirvana had helped shaped the music industry at that time alongside other popular figures such as M. Osman, Datuk Jeffrydin and many more.
The song was not only iconic in that era but remained evergreen in his fans’ memories until today, he said.
