KOTA KINABALU, June 12 (Bernama) -- Former Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) director-general Datuk Amrullah Kamal, 58, has been appointed the new President of the Tawau Municipal Council (MPT), effective today.
Sabah Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Jaujan Sambakong said Amrullah replaces Alijus Sipil who retired.
He said the appointment was approved by Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal.
“He (Amrullah) is a very experienced man who once headed the Public Works Department (PWD) in Tawau and was transferred to Sabah PWD before being appointed as director-general of Kota Kinabalu City Hall.
“I am confident that under his leadership Tawau Municipal Council would move forward as hoped by the new Sabah government leadership especially in addressing issues of water supply and the frequent floods in Tawau,” he told reporters, here today.
Jaujan, who is also Sabah Local Government and Housing Minister, said the role of a president was very important, especially with Tawau also being a foreign tourist attraction.
