KUALA LUMPUR, May 16 (Bernama) -- A total of 163 participants under the Rancangan Pinggiran Felcra Rompin, Jempol in Negeri Sembilan, will be involved in a 430-hectare RevoTropix Paulownia tree-planting project.
The project under the Bioeconomic Community Development Program (BCDP), managed by Malaysian Bioeconomy Development Corporation (Bioeconomy Corp), is expected to benefit 600 individuals and produce at least 50 bio-agropreneurs in the area.
Bioeconomy Corp chief executive officer Dr Mohd Shuhaizam Mohd Zain said in a statement today that the project was in line with the vision of the Ministry of Agriculture and Agro-based Industry to empower farmers as well as to increase entrepreneurship skills among participants.
"The BCDP project will improve the technical skills and work experience in agriculture, especially in the planting of Paulownia (scientific name:Paulownia tomentosa) trees. This project also contributes to the Malaysian timber industry as the trees have rapid growth rate and high commodity sales value," added the statement.
For that purpose, the Green Afforestation International Network (Gain Green) as the main company for the project has signed an agreement with participants in Rompin.
