PUTRAJAYA, May 14 (Bernama) -- The Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) into the discovery of temporary transit camps and mass graves in Wang Kelian, Perlis continues today as the hearing enters the ninth day.
In eight days of proceedings earlier, 24 witnesses had testified.
It was held at the Home Ministry’s Dewan Gemilang which has been improvised as a court.
Former Chief Justice Tun Ariffin Zakaria is chairing the RCI which comprised seven members with former Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Norian Mai as the deputy chairman.
Five other members of the RCI are former head of prosecution at the Attorney-General’s Chambers, Datuk Noobahri Baharuddin; former Suhakam chairman, Tan Sri Razali Ismail; former head of research at the Attorney-General’s Chambers, Datuk Junaidah Abd Rahman; former Malaysian Ambassador to Thailand, Datuk Nazirah Hussain and former Public Accounts Committee deputy chairman, Dr. Tan Seng Giaw.
In 2015, the nation was shocked with the discovery of 139 graves and 28 human trafficking camps at the peak of Bukit Wang Burma in Wang Kelian located at the Malaysian-Thai border.
The RCI, set up with the consent of Yang di-Pertuan Agong on January 29, among others is to review all documents and evidence relating to the case of temporary shelters and mass graves in Wang Kelian.
