BUTTERWORTH, May 2 (Bernama) -- Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) is the first choice of students today for furthering studies because of better job opportunities and income after completing the training.

Human Resources Minister M. Kula Segaran said parents are now starting to realise that skills through TVET secure the future of their children, they even have jobs waiting for them while they are still studying.

“The salary is also high. For example, there are TVET students working in Singapore and the Middle East receiving salaries of between RM30,000 and RM40,000 a month because they have high expertise,” he told reporters after witnessing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Manpower Department (JTM)  and Yayasan Jasa Ann Joo, here.

JTM was represented by its director-general Datuk Muhd Khair Razman Mohamed Annuar while Yayasan Jasa Ann Joo was represented by its Group executive director Datuk Lawrence Lim Aun Chuan.

Kula Segaran said the main focus of the MoU was to provide apprenticeship opportunities and scholarships to students from 32 JTM Training Institutes (ILTJTM) and industrial placements to ILJTM instructors at Ann Joo Group, a steel manufacturing company.

Meanwhile, Lawrence said via the Yayasan Jasa Ann Joo, scholarships would be offered to eligible ILJTM students and subsequently job opportunities after graduation.
